What is ‘Thermage’?
Thermage is a recent scientifically & medically researched, safe,
non-surgical, non-laser, single -treatment, cosmetic procedure using
a computer controlled Capicitative Radio Frequency (CRF) device,
that is clinically proven for tightening of the loose sagging skin
and smoothening of the wrinkles & folds and helping to naturally
restore a more youthful appearance without causing any damage to
the outer layer of the skin called ‘epidermis’. As there
is no ‘down-time’, therefore, patient can resume usual
activities immediately after the Thermage procedure. How does Thermage work?
When computer controlled Capicitative Radio Frequency (CRF) energy
is delivered into the deeper layers of the skin through a specialised ‘ThermaTip’,
the large volume of its collagen fibres and the fibrous septae
are heated, while simultaneously cooling the outer surface of
the skin, there by protecting it from any thermal damage. This
heating causes immediate contraction of these deeper structures
giving tightening effect to the skin. As the time passes, new
production & remodelling of the collagen occurs naturally
resulting into further tightening of the skin giving it a healthier,
smoother and more youthful appearance over a period of about
2 to 6 months following only one treatment session.
How does one feel during Thermage procedure?
When ThermaTip touches the surface of skin, patients feels cold
sensation at the treatment site, followed by the deep heat sensation
with the delivery of each pulse of CRF energy and finally cooling
sensation on the skin occurs. Each of this cycle lasts for 2
seconds.
Is it painful?
Heating of the deeper structures earlier caused some discomfort.
However, this discomfort has been eliminated as Dr Mukadam uses
latest improved and faster speed -ThermaTips reducing the period
of ‘cold-heat-cold’ cycle during the procedure. There
is no pain during and after the procedure.
How much time does the procedure takes?
It may take 15 to 60 minutes, depending upon the size of the area
to be treated.
How will be my skin soon after the treatment?
There may be some temporary redness & swelling at the treated
area. Immediately after the Thermage procedure, your skin may feel
tighter, smoother and more youthful. As time passes, you will notice
further gradual additional tightening, lift and contouring of the
skin.
Do I need any special preparation before or any precautions after
the Thermage treatment?
There are no special preparations or precautions required before
and after the Thermage procedure. You may use your usual skin care
products, cosmetics or medications before and after the procedure.
When can I resume my usual normal activities?
Except the temporary redness & swelling at treated sites, there
is no damage to the skin surface. Therefore, you can resume your
normal regular activities immediately; as there is no ‘down-time’.
When will I see the results?
Most of the patients experience tightening of the treated skin
immediately after the Thermage procedure. Improvement continues
and over the period of 2 to 6 months, there is a gradual further
tightening, lift and contouring effects due to the new production
and remodelling of the collagen fibres in the dermis and deeper
layers of the skin.
How many sessions of treatments are required to get desired results?
Most of the patients are satisfied by its excellent results after
a single treatment. Very few may require second treatment after
6 months of first session.
How long does the effect last?
Changes induced by the Thermage treatments are permanent. However,
time factor of age & gravity continue to take toll. Like Surgical-Lifts,
Thermage procedure ‘turns back the clock’ but does ‘not
stop the clock from ticking’.
Is it safe?
Thermage procedure has excellent safety record. It is the only
procedure approved by FDA-USA for skin tightening, contouring
and smoothening of the wrinkles on the Face, Around the Eyes,
Arms, Tummy and Thighs.
Where can the Thermage treatment be useful?

sagging skin and the wrinkles & folds at the following areas
of the body:
• |
Forehead to lift eye brows |
• |
Periorbital region (around the eyes) |

Are there any other treatment options, besides Thermage?

Traditionally, loose & lax skin is treated
by the ‘Surgical-Lifts’, like, forehead lifts,
brow lifts & face lifts. CO2 Laser Resurfacing is another
popular method of treatment. Both these procedures give excellent
results but they are invasive, require hospitalisation, post
- operative bed rest for few weeks causing loss of daily earnings
etc. However, CO2 Laser resurfacing may cause certain side-effects
like, secondary infections, hyperpigmentation, hypertrophic
scars & keloid formations. These side-effects are more
frequent and more pronounced in Asians (Skin Types IV, V, VI) |
•
|
IPL- Photorejuvenation & certain
non-invasive Lasers can also help, but both these procedures
require multiple sessions of treatment to get cosmetically
acceptable results |
•
|
Botox injections, Fillers & Mesotherapy
are other non-invasive procedures, but the effects are temporary
lasting for about 6 to 8 months, requiring repeated treatments |
Can I undergo Thermage treatments, if I had undergone above mentioned
procedures earlier?
Any earlier cosmetic procedure is not a contra-indication for Thermage
treatment. You can take Thermage treatment even, if you had undergone
other aesthetic procedures like, Chemical peels, Microdermabrasion
- skin polishing, IPL-Photorejuvenation, Botox or Fillers. However, combination of IPL-Photorejuvenation gives added benefits
of improvement in texture of the skin along with tightening & smoothening
of the skin due to Thermage procedure.
