What is Photorejuvenation?
It is a new, most advanced, non – ablative and non – invasive skin rejuvenation process in which Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) removes blotchy complexions, loss of smoothness, brown pigmentation, mottled pigmentation, age spots or sun spots, dark circles around the eyes, poikiloderma and wrinkles of sun damages and aging skin and all the blemishes of the skin that mar the beauty. How is Photorejuvenation performed?
A cold gel is applied to the area to be treated, the smooth glass surface of IPL hand piece is gently applied to your skin and pulses of Light are applied. It is painless or you may feel a slight sting, like the snapping of a small rubber band. The treatment is generally administered in a series of four to six sessions at the interval of three weeks in between each session. Each treatment takes about twenty minutes.
Why is multiple treatments necessary?

Depending upon the type of conditions you are treating and the severity of the individual problem, a series of four to six treatment sessions may be recommended. This process being a non – invasive one, the full treatment program is divided in to several sessions so that the procedure provides gradual improvement with no risk of complications and it preserves the wonderful “no down time” features that people appreciate so much.

How safe it is?
It is absolutely safe when treatment is offered by a dermatologist who has obtained special formal training in the use of IPL & Lasers. As it is approved by FDA – USA for Asians and black skins and all other skin types, there are no serious and long term complications or side effects. However there may be slight redness soon after the treatment which disappears within few hours.
How it differs from other treatments?
There are different lasers that treat benign vascular lesions and benign brown pigmented conditions separately and there are some other lasers that are used for skin resurfacing. These lasers are invasive and ablative therefore, procedures with these lasers require operation theaters, anaesthesia and longer period of post- treatment bed rest. They may also leave behind many serious complications and side – effects especially in Asians and black persons, most common of them are persistent redness, more darkening of the skin (hyperpigmentation) and hypertrophic scarring. They may not show the long term improvement of complexion and texture as provided by IPL – Photorejuvenation.
On the other hand, IPL – Photorejuvenation can remove all the blemishes and improve the complexion and texture of skin by making it smooth, soft, glowing, youthful and charming, giving new fresh look to the person. More over it is a non invasive and non ablative procedure; therefore it is done in clinics without anesthesia & hospitalization. There is also “no down time” therefore it does not cause slightest interruption in your busy life time so that you can resume your normal duties immediately. It is truly a “lunch break office procedure”.
FAQ for VascuLight™ system
I've had other treatments for varicose and spider veins, and sometimes the problem comes back over time. Does the VascuLight™ system offer a permanent solution for these conditions?
The VascuLight system's Intense Pulsed Light™ (IPL™) and laser system provides complete and virtually permanent closure of damaged and ruptured veins, both large and small, both near the surface and further below it. Since the vein is completely closed, blood cannot flow back into it; consequently, over time the vein simply disintegrates and is absorbed by the body. Other treatment types may not produce this complete vein closure. Be aware, however, that patients may develop varicose veins in other areas as time passes.
My doctor explained that the broken capillaries, flushing and little pimples I have on my face are associated with a skin disorder called rosacea. Can the VascuLight system help me?
Experts have found IPL treatments to be very effective in minimizing the vascular symptoms associated with rosacea. Your entire face, chest and neck areas can generally be treated without anesthesia or significant side effects.
How long has the VascuLight system been available?
The VascuLight system has been available in the US since April, 1998. Further, it has gone through rigorous clinical testing in some of the world’s leading hospitals and clinical facilities. Dozens of articles have been published in medical journals on the results of these studies. (See our Clinical Library, vascular and pigmented lesions section for a listing)
I spend a lot of time outdoors, so I usually have a pretty good tan. Can I still be treated with the laser energy of the VascuLight system?
One of the advances of the VascuLight system is its ability to treat virtually all skin types and colors, at any time of the year. This is due to its long, near-infrared laser wavelength that easily passes through the melanin, the material that gives color to the skin.
Is this procedure covered by insurance?
Insurance reimbursement varies from state to state and carrier to carrier. While most insurance companies do not offer reimbursement for cosmetic conditions, many problems treated with the VascuLight system are of a medical nature. It's best to consult your individual carrier for more information on your specific type of treatment.
